If you purchase a used wood lathe always get the original instruction manual, but if the seller does not have it you should order one from the manufacturer directly. Mechanical scales can only offer you an approximate reading, but the read-outs from a digital scale give you pinpoint weight measurements. Be careful about who you obtain your scale from, and stick with name brands only since there are many disreputable scale dealers out there, particularly on the Internet. Don’t waste your cash on low-grade scales no matter how attractive the price may be, as these cheap scales will not serve you well at all.
End mills
In the specialized domain of modernized machine shops the state-of-the-art technologies are tungsten carbide and diamond coated end mills. Any machine shop handles a lot of various material such as a wide range of metals, fabrics, concrete and plastic. A modern machinist must be part mathematician and part metallurgist who understands math formulas plus the weight, strength, and thermal performances of various materials. The most important element of choosing carbide end mills is the coating, which should be sufficiently heat resistant so that it can reduce the amount of time needed to shut down a machine for maintenance. Standard milling cutters could be used for machining aluminum parts but it is recommended that you use coarse tooth cutters with a 10 to 12 degree clearance angle. Carbide tipped twist drills are also recommended for use on aluminum, and with a high helix angle and wide flutes the chips from the machining operation will easily clear out. The most durable cutting edges will wear out at some point, especially if you are machining a lot of nickel alloy material, and you need to replace them as soon as they become dull.
